Spotlight on the regional policy of the European Union

The regional policy of the European Union, also referred to as cohesion policy, is the policy aimed at improving the economic well-being of regions in the EU and at reducing regional disparities. Addressed to all EU regions and cities, it contains measures to boost sustainable development, economic growth and jobs, and to improve quality of life through strategic investment. It represents, among other things, an active form of EU solidarity, thanks to which people in less-developed regions can seize the opportunities created by the largest market in the world.

From faster railway connections to improved regional water supply systems and from modernised motorways to new research facilities, the regional policy has been delivering for years what citizens might perceive as the most visible contribution of the European Union to a better quality of life; the quality of life right in their neighbourhoods, cities and regions.

Find out more about how the European Union helps your region in this month’s newsletter, along with some of the most interesting EU publications on several other topics, including research.
