Spotlight on EU investments and growth

In November 2014, the European Commission announced the start of the investment plan for Europe — also called #investEU. It included a new European Fund for Strategic Investments (EFSI) and its goals were to get Europe growing again whilst getting more people back to work after a period of global economic crisis.

Mobilising €360 billion worth of investments as of November 2018, the investment plan has exceeded its initial target of €315 billion. It has already benefited millions of homes in the EU and supported more than 750 000 jobs, with the figure set to rise to 1.4 million by 2020. In parallel, it has already increased the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of the EU by 0.6 % and is set to contribute a further 0.7 % by 2020. This played an important role in the recent Annual Growth Survey 2019 forecasting that the EU’s economy will soon be entering its sixth year of uninterrupted growth, providing jobs to a record number of people and raising the living standards of millions of families.

This special #investEU bundle shows you specific examples of how each Member State invests in the future. You can find out more about the EU’s investments and growth in this month’s newsletter, along with some of the most interesting EU publications on several other topics, including research.

But what can even €315 billion do for the whole of the EU? This publication presents some answers to this question.
