The transposition of Recast Directive 2006/54/EC

Directive 2006/54/EC on the implementation of the principle of equal opportunities and equal treatment between men and women in matters of employment and occupation (recast) consolidates a few existing directives on gender equality. The objective of the recast directive is to combine the main existing provisions on gender equality as covered by this directive as well as by relevant case law (Recital 1) in a single text. According to the Commission, such a text should increase clarity and should modernise and simplify the provisions of directives linked by their subject in order to make Community legislation clearer and more effective. Gender equality law should in this way be more accessible for a broader public.
